Frequently Asked Questions
How long have you been drawing?
I'm one of those kids who never paid attention in elementary school. I was always drawing horses on pieces of paper I stole from the printer. When I was in middle school, I was drawing characters from the Lion King and X-Men. Junior high my obsession was anime and manga. When I hit highschool, I took as many art electives as possible and focused on all that 'realistic stuff'. You know, landscapes, vases, and naked people. I attended the Rochester Institute of Technology, (where I drew more naked people), and graduated with a BFA in illustration, an associates degree in graphic design, and a minor in creative writing.
Are you a professional artist?
Yes, by day I'm employed as a graphic designer. No more naked people.
How do you create your art?
I'm a traditionalist in my roots. Everything begins on a real piece of paper with a real pencil. From there on it may go anywhere to paints, markers, or to digital. Non-digital media tends to give me more artistic satisfaction, (or maybe that's just the marker vapors and turpentine), but digital media is faster and I looooooooooooove my Wacom tablet.
What are those bird-lizard-mosquito-creature things?
They're my tweeps! Formally known as the Tweepilee Twizzles, my strange little mascots who wandered into my sketchbook and absolutely refuse to leave. If you love 'em, feel free to join the We Love Tweeps group on Facebook.
Will you draw me a tweep? Where can I buy a tweep t-shirt?
Yes, I do draw tweeps on commission. E-mail me for more info. As for tweep t-shirts, let me know which image you'd like to purchase and I'll set up cafe press products for that image.
Why polar bears?
I've always held environmentalist views, and usually I prefer approaching such subjects with solid facts and statistics. Sometimes, however, an issue needs to be stripped down to grab people on an emotional level before it provokes a response. I don't draw polar bears because I think they are cute and fluffy like kittens. I understand that they are powerful and sometimes dangerous animals. I also recognize that they aren't the only creatures in danger from the effects of rapid global warming. However, they make a convenient symbol to represent the humans and wildlife who are and will be affected by climate change.
Why are the polar bears always sad?
Wouldn't you be sad if you were a polar bear?
